NLBA Referee Applications Now Open

I hope you’re all enjoying the final weeks of summer! As we gear up for another exciting NLBA basketball season, we’re looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our referee team.

Refereeing is a great opportunity to stay involved in the game, develop leadership skills, earn some money, and contribute to our basketball community.

Why Referee with NLBA?

  • Gain valuable experience in game management and decision-making
  • Earn money while staying active in basketball
  • Develop confidence and communication skills
  • Be part of the action and help young athletes grow
  • Flexible scheduling that works around your availability

Who Can Apply?

  • You must be turning 13 years old or older this year
  • No prior refereeing experience is necessary — although it is certainly an asset. We provide training!
  • A passion for basketball and working with young athletes
  • Priority will be given to current NLBA players

A Note About Referee Applications

We were fortunate to have a very large referee group last season. In fact, we ended up with more referees than we had games available, which meant that some officials did not receive as many game assignments as we would have liked.

This season, we may accept fewer applicants so that the referees selected have the opportunity to work more games, gain more repetitions, and continue developing their skills throughout the season. Submission of an application therefore does not necessarily guarantee a spot on the referee team.

What We Provide:

  • Complete referee training and support
  • Ongoing mentorship from experienced officials
  • Referee clinic on September 21, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Fair compensation for your time and effort

How to Apply: Simply click this link to access our referee application form.

Important Timeline:

  • Applications are being accepted now
  • Referee clinic: September 21, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Games begin: Late September 2026

We’re committed to supporting our referees, whether they are brand new to officiating or have previous experience. Our referee coordinator will work closely with the team throughout the season to help everyone feel prepared, supported, and confident on the court.

If you have any questions about the referee program or application process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Thank you for considering this important role in the NLBA community. Our referees are a critical part of making the league successful and creating a great experience for our young athletes.

Best regards,

Jason
