NLBA Registration, Volunteers & Coaches

Hi NLBA Families,

We’re getting close to the start of another North Langley Basketball season, and there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. We wanted to share a few important updates — and ask for your help as we get ready to welcome everyone back to the gym. 

Registration is still open — help us fill our divisions!

We still have room for players in our divisions, although some age groups are starting to get close to capacity. If your child is planning to play this season and you haven’t registered yet, <u>now is the time to sign up</u>.

A full league makes for a better season for everyone. More registrations mean more teams, better-balanced divisions, more variety in competition, and a better overall basketball experience for our kids.

If you know a family whose child might be interested in basketball, please help us spread the word! NLBA is a community league, and many of our players first join because a friend, classmate, neighbour, or teammate tells them about it. Please feel free to forward this email or share the registration information with families in your community.

We want to get as many kids playing basketball as we can — and we’d love to see every division full this season.

Volunteer sign-up

NLBA is a volunteer-run organization, and it takes a lot of people working together to create a great season for more than just their own child.

We have a sign-up sheet for several important roles within each division, including:

• Division Coordinators, who help support communication and organization within their division;

• Clock Keepers, who help us run games throughout the season; and

• Photo Day Volunteers, who help keep one of our busiest league-wide events organized and running smoothly.

Most of these roles don’t require basketball expertise — just a willingness to contribute some time and help our league operate well.

Evaluation Night volunteers

Player evaluations are one of the biggest logistical undertakings of our season. Over a short period, we need to evaluate a large number of players so that we can create teams that are as balanced and competitive as possible.

We’ll need volunteers to help with everything from registration and player organization to running stations, recording information, and keeping the evenings moving efficiently.

If you can give us a few hours during evaluations, it makes an enormous difference.

Coach registration is now open

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we need coaches!

Our coaches have an enormous impact on the experience kids have in NLBA. They teach basketball, but they also create the environment players experience every week — encouraging them, helping them improve, building their confidence, and showing them what it means to be part of a team.

With hundreds of players registering, we need a lot of head coaches and assistant coaches across every age group. Having enough coaches also allows us to create more teams, keep roster sizes manageable, and ultimately accept more kids into the league.

And you absolutely do not need to be an expert basketball coach. If you care about kids, are willing to learn, and can create a positive team environment, we can help with the basketball side. Assistant coaching is also a great way to get involved if you’re not ready to take on a team yourself.

Referee registration is coming soon

Referee registration will also be opening shortly. Our referee program is an important part of NLBA and a great opportunity, particularly for young people in our community, to develop confidence, leadership, decision-making skills, and earn some money along the way.

We’ll send out a separate announcement soon with registration information, eligibility requirements, and details about referee training for the upcoming season.

Thank you for being part of North Langley Basketball. Whether you register a player, coach a team, volunteer for a few hours, referee games, or simply tell another family about the league, it all helps us create a better basketball community for our kids.
